L.A. Microbrewery Turns its Beer Packaging into Works of Art

Brouwerij West, a microbrewery based in LA, is taking a fresh approach to its beer packaging: in particular, its labeling. In attempts to stand out from stereotypical beer packaging designs, brewery owner Brian Mercer hired about 15 artists and gave them free reign to design whatever they wished. Mercer hopes that new, fresh artwork (as opposed to the dominating “hops-and-grains, typography-heavy, St. Pauli girl-style”) will make his audience stop for a moment to admire the execution and originality. Beck’s Green Box Project Merges Art, Technology, and Beer

Beck’s Green Box Project is a “global fund established to inspire, celebrate, and financially support independent talent in art, design, music, and fashion.”  From July to September of 2011 Beck’s released 30 Green Boxes around the UK, US, and Italy that trigger an augmented reality app designed for the project. Using your smartphone or tablet, you simply point your device at the box and experience virtual artwork by renowned artists.
