Music and beer – a match made in heaven. Speaking of which, Dogfish Head has announced that they’ll be brewing a commemorative beer this month in honor of Pearl Jam’s 20th anniversary. The Belgian-style “Faithfull Ale” is a nod to the band’s first album “Ten,” which debuted in the August of 1991.

The label reads, “Faithfull Ale is a celebration of Pearl Jam’s 20th anniversary and their seminal album Ten – In recognition of these milestones this Belgian-style golden ale is delicately hopped to 20 IBUs and fruit-forward from 10 incremental additions of black currants over the course of the one hour boil. 7% ABV.”

This is not the first time the Delaware-based brewery has joined forces with the music industry. In 2010 they released a beer, “Bitches Brew,” after Miles Davis’ album for its 40th anniversary. “Hellhound on my Ale,” released earlier this year, was brewed for the 100th anniversary of blues artist Robert Johnson.

willie_nelson_peach_cobblerAs a marketing strategy, the pairing of celebrities and products/brands is a great way for creating an authentic association with a group of consumers and is a terrific tactic for gaining PR. Ben & Jerry’s has been a leader in the food/beverage and music celebrity pairings. With ice cream flavors inspired by such celebs as Willie Nelson, Dave Matthews, Phish and Jerry Garcia, B&J has created an amazing template for how musicians can add another dimension to food and beverage.
