Heineken Balloons

Heineken’s at it again on Facebook. Their current campaign aims to get more fans in Brazil by following the “1 like = 1 incentive” formula. For every Brazilian user who likes the Heineken Facebook page, one balloon is blown up and put in an office. A select number of users get a video message dedicated to them with a personalized touch to show the progress of the campaign. The page has already gained thousands of new likes in just a few days, resulting in tons of balloons in what is now a cramped office reminiscent of a playground ball...

Heineken Design Contest

Update: Heineken has revealed the winning design In a new Facebook app from Heineken, users are challenged to design their own Heineken beer bottle to be produced in an exclusive 140th anniversary limited edition pack. The exact messaging from the brand is to “create a bottle design that symbolizes how people around the world will connect in the next 140 years.” Furthering this theme of “connection,” the design template is only one half of the bottle, and you must pair up with another user’s design to complete the packaging concept. Check it out here.

Stella Artois Attempts to Erase Negative Nickname from Web

January 6, 2012
By
Stella Artois Rick Santorum FAIL

Stella Artois has recently tried to remove all references on Wikipedia to its pejorative nickname of “wife-beater” in the UK.  The brand hired a PR firm to make several edits to the Stella Artois Wikipedia page and the “Wife-Beater” Wikipedia entry, in which one of the definitions reads, “A British name for Stella Artois, based on the supposed behavioral effects of the drink.” The changes were quickly reversed by site users, and the brand is facing backlash from the online community for trying to suppress free speech. This is certainly not the first instance a brand has tried to manipulate its...

Budweiser Big Time Logo

Budweiser, in partnership with ABC and ESPN, will begin airing episodes of its reality mini-series “The Big Time” starting on Saturdays this January. The mini-series is a continuation of what started out as a social media campaign. Earlier this year Budweiser used its social networks to call for video submissions from fans. The mini-series, which consists of  seven episodes total, features the everyman in his quest to fulfill his dreams of making it big. The dreams are mostly sports-related, including race car driving, baseball pitching, and playing on a major league soccer team – but a few other activities...

guinness

Not sure what your Guinness should wear to the holiday party? Never fear, for “Decorate Your Pint” is here. Guinness has developed a mobile app in conjunction with Blippar, an augmented reality platform, that uses the AR technology to “decorate” a pint of Guinness with festive accessories. I’m not sure if this is the most creative burst of genius in the beer marketing world, but hey, maybe it’s fun after a few pints. Source: PSFK

Heineken Facebook App Promotes Selfish Gift-Giving

December 23, 2011

heineken beertender

Heineken’s latest Facebook app, the “BeerFriender,” capitalizes on people’s gift-giving tendencies during the holiday season. Essentially it’s a social commerce app designed to sell the BeerTender, a product that lets you serve Heineken on tap at home. As the video explains, however, buying yourself one of these BeerTenders so close to Christmas is “not in the holiday spirit,” which is clearly a serious problem for many people. The BeerFriender offers a solution: you buy the BeerTender, and the app matches you up with someone else so you can send it to each other. So really, you’re buying yourself a...

Old Milwaukee Nearly Drops the Ball on Video Marketing Campaign

December 16, 2011
By
old-milwaukee-will-ferrell

It’s hard to say exactly what makes a good viral video. Hiring an A-list funnyman to star in the production and leaving him to his own devices is surely a good start though. That’s the road Old Milwaukee took in their latest video marketing campaign, which stars a candid Will Ferrell being his usual farcical self in Davenport, Iowa. Several spots have aired on TV and yet no company-official version has been uploaded to the web. The only access we have to the spots are grainy, fan-recorded copies taken straight from the television screen to the web. This misstep on...

Stella Artois, “the beer originally crafted for Christmas,” as the brand markets itself, is gearing up for the holiday season with festive packaging and a host of other marketing tactics. The limited-edition 12-pack is outfitted as a red box covered in white stars, topped off with a gift card ready for signing. The cans themselves feature a red/white/gold color palette and the phrase “Named after the Christmas Star” scripted under the lip. In the spirit of giving, the marketing campaign is supplemented by a Stella Artois Christmas album, Under the Holiday Star. The album features 8 classic Christmas tunes...

Rickard’s Beer Does Movember

November 16, 2011
By
RickardsMovember

We’re halfway through November, which can only explain the influx of bristly, scruffy, and woolly faces around town. To show some solidarity with the Movember movement, Rickard’s has outfitted each of their brews with a characteristically distinct ‘stache. Each beer gets its own style: the Red Imperial, Blonde Handlebar, White Walrus, and Dark Chevron. A Facebook app “MO DUELS,” in which you choose a team and duel your “mo” by uploading pictures of your growing progress, provides interactive entertainment for the digital drinker. To add to the fun, a video spot (seen below) promotes the campaign: Check out the...
